Etymology: From loa, a type of Haitian spirit, and a corruption of locomotive
Origin: Based on the idea of a ghost train, a supposedly possessed locomotive. It is also based on the St. Louis ghost light phenomenon, caused by railroad signs' lights reflecting off the metal tracks and making it appear as if a train is passing by. It is also based on a sheet ghost and a 2-4-0 steam locomotive.
